WordWorld Scramble Game

Get a bucket of magnetic letters and a large metal white board.  Set up the board against the wall by anchoring with nails or have two adults hold it up. Scatter the letters on the ground.  Let kids have fun playing and making their own words or call out letters and see who can find the letters first.

WordWorld Yogurt Painting

Get plain yogurt and create various batches of colored yogurt using food coloring.  Give each kid a plate and let them scoop one scoop of each color onto their plate.  Let them use their fingers to "paint" their own creations or use their fingers to paint letters in their yogurt.  Great tactile activity for kids, especially boys.

Pass the WordWorld Letters

This game is played like the traditional game "Pass the Ball" in the circle.  Print out a few letters or write them down on a large piece of 8.5"x11" paper.  Perhaps the letters of the birthday child would be a great idea.  Play some fun music or WordWorld music.  Pass around the letters in a circle.  Stop the music after a few seconds.  Call out a letter.  Whoever is left holding a certain letter e.g. "E" will be out.  Give the kids who are out a trinket or favor for playing and leaving the game.

WordWorld Letter Scavenger Hunt Game

Get large wooden letters with all the letters of the Birthday Child from a craft store like Michaels or AC Moore, and paint them in colorful primary colors. Let dry. You can also decorate each one to have a personality as well, e.g. wiggly eyes, polka dots, arms and legs out of pipe cleaners, etc.  Let each letter have a personality and name.  For example, excited "E", silly "S", etc.

On the day of the party, hide them all over the yard. Tell the kids we have lost the letters to the name of the Birthday Child and we need to find them!  Have the letters written out on a board so kids know which letters they are looking for. Let the kids go with an adult to look for the letters and as they find them, come up to the board to see which ones match.

When all the letters have been found, go through all of them and let them sound them all out.  Then have them try to make the shape of each letter with their body.  It has been said that physical activity tied with learning helps increase memory.  So for example, for the letter "S" make a squiggly wave with your body and let the kids copy that.  Of course with some letters you have to get creative, but that is all part of the fun and giggles!

Enjoy!
